Summer
As the snow line recedes up the mountain, the meadows fill with wild flowers. The air is full of the sound of cowbells as the livestock are moved from their summer barns into the summer meadows. The village becomes a riot of colour, as Samoëns is also a ‘Village Fleuri’. The walkers and cyclists replace the skiers.
In the summer the chalet is available on a bed & breakfast or self-catering basis.
Summer activities include:
Walking
Walkers are spoilt for choice with over 900km of marked trails in stunning scenery. Several lifts operate during July & August to whisk walkers further up the mountains.
There are also several mountain refuges that can be booked for overnight stays for the serious walkers.
Biking
In the summer the whole area fills with bikes of all descriptions. Indeed there are over 600km of marked mountain bike trails in the area and some of the lifts are adapted to take bikes up for the steeper descents. Cycles of all descriptions, including tag alongs are easily available to hire in Samoens.
The Tour de France also races its way up the Col-de-Joux Plane every few years.
Water Sports
Samoëns offers numerous waters sports along the Giffre River . Including, white water rafting (our personal favourite), canoeing, swimming in rapids and canyoning through spectacular scenery and deep gorges.
The swimming complex has 3 outdoor pools and a 60m slide next to a large leisure area.
Leisure Area
The leisure area, which is a short walk from the chalet, is set around 2 lakes. This area includes outdoor tennis courts, archery, and an adventure park in the forest with rope slides and walkways through the treetops.
In nearby Morillon there is swimming in ‘Lac Bleu,’ which has a manmade beach with lifeguards on duty.
Other activities in the area include fishing, pot holing, climbing, via ferrata and parapenting.
Golf
There are also several golf courses within a short drive of Samoëns including two championship courses. At the Samoëns leisure area there is a driving range into one of the lakes and mini golf for the children.
Days Out
Within an hours drive of Samoens are numerous places well worth a visit such as Annecy and Chamonix or towns such as Yvoire on the banks of Lake Geneva. You could even pop to Italy or Switzerland for lunch.
